The beautiful ladies of Shunyata Belly Dance come from many different parts of the United States and Europe, representing an eclectic array of the many types of belly dance found all over the world!
Shunyata began with Silvia Salamanca, a native of Mallorca, Spain. Silvia started her career as a belly dancer in 2001 when she realized the enormous benefits that this art-form brings to women in both body and spirit. With her work in the field of Zambra Mora (Spanish gypsy-oriental dance fusion) Silvia has gained international recognition and is currently invited to teach workshops and perform in major festivals in Europe and across the USA.
Raphaella of Shunyata is from sweet home Chicago! Raphaella has an extensive dance background including ballet, jazz, hip hop, ballroom and Latin dancing, all of which is reflected in her unique fusion style. She has been studying belly dance since 2004, and has been performing for the past four years around Chicago and Indianapolis before moving to Houston in January 2009. She began studying the American Cabaret style of belly dance, then dabbled in the Turkish, Egyptian and Romani styles. Eventually, she stumbled upon Tribal Fusion belly dance and has since been addicted.
Miriam Amaya of Shunyata is a native of El Paso, TX. She has been practicing the art of belly dance since 2004. Her styles of expertise are American Tribal Style (ATS), Tahitian, Classical India Dance as well as Mexican Folkloric Dance. Miriam is well-known for her stunning skill of balancing her favorite props on top of her head during her performances. These props include her scimitar sword and fire tray. Miriam refers to these props as her “son and daughter” as she taught herself how to balance these magnificent pieces while executing her beautifully structured choreography.
Shunyata Belly Dance was founded by Silvia Salamanca in 2007 and has been invited to perform all over the United States. They are a regular performer at the Texas Renaissance Festival and have recently launched their second DVD!
Silvia has her own private studio, BALLAM BELLY DANCE & WELL-BEING, located in Houston at 1245 Heights Blvd ., Houston, TX 77008. Classes are held at varying times Monday through Friday depending upon skill level and include many different levels of an array of styles including Tribal Fusion, Egyptian and even belly dance for well-being and self-discovery.
